Low cost neutering

Financial assistance to neuter your pet

If you are on a lower income (such as in receipt of Universal Credit or other means-tested benefits), then there is financial help available for paying for neutering or spaying your pet.

We can provide low-cost neutering for cats and dogs in our Vet Suite at the Bath Cats & Dogs Home rehoming centre in Claverton Down, Bath.

NOTICE 28th March 2024 All neutering appointments are booked up until June

We will be releasing more dates for appointments around mid-May so please check back in with us nearer that time to apply.

To be eligible

•    You must be in receipt of Universal Credit or other means-tested benefits.
•    You must also live in our catchment area in Bath and North East Somerset or Wiltshire. To confirm you are within our catchment area, you can search your postcode on www.rspca.org.uk/whatwedo/yourlocal or call us on 01225 787321 (during office hours).

The cost

For cats   Neutering is £35 for a male cat, and £65 for a female cat.  This covers the basics such as general anaesthesia and pain medication as they recover. Neither Bath Vets nor BCDH will profit from the operation. As a guide, at a standard vet a male cat neuter would cost about £100, and a female cat £140.

For dogs  Neutering costs depend on the size and gender of your dog. Once you apply with your dog’s details, we can give you a quote. Charges start at £100 for a male dog, and £160 for a female. This covers the basics such as general anaesthesia and pain medication as they recover. Neither Bath Vets nor BCDH will profit from the operation. As a guide, at a standard vet a male dog neuter would cost about £200, and a female dog £350.

Payment is required to secure your booking, once your application has been approved.

How it works

Your pet will be operated on in the Vet Suite at Bath Cats & Dogs Home, by a vet and nursing team from Bath Vets. The experienced team handle several neuters every day. There is a separate recovery room which is manned by our Animal Care team, so they will receive the best care.

We will book you an appointment once your application has been approved and you have paid. The Vet Suite also treats the rescue cats and dogs at the rehoming centre, so we will fit you in to their busy schedule. It may take 6-8 weeks to find you an appointment so please be patient.

The Vet Suite is open Monday-Friday. You will need to bring your dog in around 8.30am and pick them up at 3.30pm.

You will be provided with full pre-operation and post-operation care information once you have been booked in.
